Interior Shopping in Nairobi - Our Fave Discoveries in Kenya's Capital

Updated: Dec 8, 2025

In February 2025, we spent nearly a month exploring Kenya—a trip that had lived on our wishlist for years, and absolutely lived up to the wait.

While there’s no shortage of stories to tell (and we’ll get to those in future posts), one question kept popping up in our DMs: Where can I find beautiful, design-forward interior pieces in Kenya?

From artisan-led studios to curated concept stores and one-of-a-kind galleries, Nairobi turned out to be a dream for well-travelled and keen-eyed interior lovers. With its four-million inhabitants and 43 different tribes, Kenya's capital is a buzzing mozaic of different scenes and (sub-) cultures, ready to be explored. Nairobi has a vibrant, design-savvy scene that bridges global taste with local craft.

Below are some of our favorite discoveries — spaces that made us want to fill up a whole shipping container.

Siafu Home, East Nairobi

Nestled in Nairobi, Kenya, Siafu Home breathes new life into traditional textile craftsmanship. At its heart, a collective of skilled weavers brings designs inspired by East African heritage to life—each piece handloomed using 100% organic cotton sourced from Kenya and Uganda. From vibrant dressing gowns and plush cushions to refined dining pieces like napkins and placemats, Siafu blends form and function in every stitch.

Founded by Gladys Macharia—whose journey began in Kenya and Florence, Italy—the brand carries a mission to revive the country’s textile industry by transferring heritage skills to new generations and expanding access through local and global markets. Each design reflects modern aesthetics fused with artisanal integrity, with minimal waste production and durable, timeless quality

.

Whether outfitting an interior or collaborating on custom textile projects for fashion and design clients, Siafu Home offers bespoke weaving and production services—complete with sampling, design consultation, and quality control—to deliver visually stunning, ethical, and sustainable pieces

Why we love it: Their signature combo of stripes & rainbow colors are pure delight for someone who loves bold patterns as much as us. Plus: a visit to their studio and hearing the click-clack of the weaving looms is nothing short of mesmerizing.

Tribal Gallery, Loresho Ridge

Nestled on Loresho Ridge in Nairobi, Tribal Gallery is a luxury lifestyle gallery crafting bespoke interiors, art, and textiles that fuse African and Asian heritage with contemporary design. Founded by siblings Louise and John Paterson, the gallery showcases exquisite bespoke furniture—often made from reclaimed dhow wood—alongside curated rugs, ceramics, glassware, and fabrics sourced through global artisan collaborations.

The gallery’s lush tropical setting also serves as a venue for immersive events celebrating art, cuisine, music, and design—a creative haven for designers, collectors, and culture lovers alike.

Why we love it: The windows and architecture of this home alone are to die for. Plus, items sourced across Africa and the globa by a sibling duo is something we will naturally recommend :)

Totem Nairobi,Village Market

We stumbled upon Totem Nairobi while wandering near Village Market—and it quickly became one of our favorite discoveries. This boutique effortlessly bridges clean, modern minimalism with subtle African nuance, drawing on organic materials and sculptural forms that feel both grounded and refined.

From low-slung wood furniture to textured neutral-toned textiles and ceramics, everything at Totem feels organic. With pieces from Kenya and Eswatini, as well as Indonesia, Vietnam, and South Africa, Totem collaborates with artisan collectives and small-scale producers whose materials and techniques reflect a natural, grounded design language.

Why we love it: Blending Scandi-vibes with African aesthetics ain't easy, but Totem shows how it's done. At SISTERHOOD we have long preached that culturally rich design beautifully fits into contemporary homes, but it's nice to see other brands do it so damn well.

Mood over the Moon, Westlands

Mood Over the Moon is a Nairobi standout for beautifully handloomed lampshades and artisanal décor with a distinct local twist. Celebrated in travel guides from Vogue and Conde Nast Traveller for its lamps crafted by Kenyan artisans, this boutique blends functionality with creative flair—perfect for adding handcrafted light and texture to any space.

While we're seeing handloomed lampshades of this kind & style emerging from small studios all over the world (think Turkey, Portugal, Colombia) - we love the playful take of Mood Over The Moon on sculptural pendant lamps to statement table lights.

Why we love it: Natural and non-toxic dyes only (think turmeric, hibiscus, tea + vingear) - what a cool, creative spin on these highly popular lampshades.

Kitenga Glass, Nairobi National Park

Just outside Nairobi, Kitengela Glass is a magical oasis where recycled glass is transformed into vibrant sculptures, mosaics, and home décor by master artisans. A visit here is more than just shopping—it's a full experience.

Whether you're sourcing statement lighting, colorful tableware, or decorative art, Kitengela is a dream destination for collectors, decorators, and anyone drawn to creative sustainability. Don’t forget to explore the lush, sculpture-studded grounds—you’ll leave with inspiration and perhaps a few shimmering treasures.

Why we loved it: Watching the artisan's process and sipping a cappuccino on a wonky mosaic table a few hundred metres away from wildlife - pure delight, if you ask us.

House of Treasures, Karen

Tucked away on Dagoretti Road in the leafy Karen neighborhood, House of Treasures Emporium is a lush, two-story gallery brimming with curated finds from around the world. For nearly two decades, its founders have ventured through markets, souks, and bazaars—from South Africa and India to Morocco and Mexico—handpicking eclectic pieces that range from architectural elements and artisanal furniture to art, fashion, and kids’ toys.

This boutique-meets-mini‑mall offers a bit of a wild mix of items and styles, but serves up inspiration for sure: whether you’re revamping a lodge, outfitting a restaurant, or hunting for design inspiration, every visit unlocks something unexpected.

Why we loved it: More than just retail, the emporium houses a café, beauty salon, and tailor—making it a destination for discovery and creative collaboration alike
