Sri Lankan Boutique Hotels For Your Next Trip

Updated: Jun 15

Sri Lanka has had a piece of our heart (and also of Maggie's kidney - don't ask, it's a long story) since our first trip in 2016. We have returned to this bountiful island nation on multiple occassions since. For example, when a close friend from London decided to get married in Bentota, Southern Coast, to honor the groom's heritage. Or when our cousin decided to move there and ended up starting her new chapter in life with a fiance and two dogs. And hopefully again soon: for a long-awaited Ayuverda retreat, but nothing's set in stone yet.

While we are daydreaming and starting to slowly plan our next Sri Lanka trip centred around wellbeing and Ayurvedic practices, we wanted to share some of our favourite boutique hotel destinations on the island.

1.

Mond, Hiriketiya

Tucked into the jungle-clad hillside of Hiriketiya Bay, Mond is a minimalist haven with brutalist curves and tropical modernist bones. This is where barefoot surfers, creative nomads, and aesthetes come to unplug, sip natural wine, and lean into the slower rhythms of the south coast.

2.

Palm Hotel, Ahangama

Set among swaying palms and wild gardens, Palm is a boho-luxe oasis blending contemporary architecture with jungle soul. Expect thatched roofs, earthy textures, and a salt-tinged breeze. It attracts barefoot dreamers, young creatives, and those chasing beauty and stillness in equal measure.

3.

Kaju Green Ecolodges, Unawatuna

Hidden in a mangrove sanctuary near Unawatuna, Kaju Green is an off-grid retreat designed for the eco-conscious and serenity-seeking. With floating lodges, natural materials, and regenerative practices, it's a soulful stay for yogis, slow travellers, and nature lovers with refined taste.

4.

Ceylon Sliders, Weligama

Surf-chic and effortlessly cool, Ceylon Sliders merges Scandinavian design with tropical surf culture. Located on Weligama’s wave-laced shoreline, it draws surfers, digital nomads, and sun-kissed creatives who value good coffee, artful spaces, and the freedom of the ocean.

5.

The Fort Printers, Galle

Housed in a former 18th-century printing press, The Fort Printers is a refined blend of colonial elegance and contemporary design. With crisp white walls, antique details, and modernist touches, it appeals to cultured travellers, history buffs, and design purists exploring Galle Fort’s timeless charm.
